Abstract:
Many adults in recovery have undetected and unaddressed histories of traumatic abuse. This audio/web conference will focus on assessing and addressing trauma among people in psychiatric rehabilitation programs, and will provide strategies for working with survivors of trauma and PTSD to facilitate healing.

Judith Cook is the Director of the UIC Center on Mental Health Services Research and Policy and is widely recognized as an international expert on psychiatric rehabilitation and community-based mental health services, research, and policy. She served as an expert consultant to the President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health, has been recognized for her pioneering leadership via several prestigious awards, and has presented her work nationally and internationally at hundreds of meetings for over two decades. She co-authored two training curricula regarding the trauma and safety needs of women with mental illnesses, and has designed and delivered trauma and crisis prevention training.
Jessica Jonikas currently is the Managing Director for the UIC Center on Mental Health Services Research and Policy, and served on the IAPSRS Board and as a co-organizer of the conference Training Institutes. Ms. Jonikas has presented Center work at national conferences and meetings, including IAPSRS/USPRA, for 18 years. She co-authored two training curricula regarding the trauma and safety needs of women with mental illnesses, served on local and national committees addressing trauma, and has designed and delivered trauma and crisis prevention training.
 
Julie Gibson is a Program Director at Thresholds with significant clinical and administrative experience. She chairs several committees that make presentations to the Thresholds staff and membership, and she has presented to and/or trained staff at a number of community-based programs on topics including trauma, substance abuse, and engaging people at high risk. Ms. Gibson also serves on the Thresholds Trauma Committee. She has been a co-presenter at previous USPRA conferences.
 
Fran Nathanson has been working in psychiatric rehabilitation for thirty years. She has led dozens of groups for the Thresholds membership, and has served on committees that make presentations to the general staff and membership. Ms. Nathanson also serves on the Thresholds Trauma Committee. She has presented at many local and national conferences, with a special focus on supporting clients with special needs including those with trauma histories, with HIV/AIDS, and at risk for suicide. She has been a co-presenter at previous USPRA conferences.

USPRA provides for 1.5 hr of continuing education for this 90 minute audio/web conference for Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioners (CPRP), professional counselors as an approved provider by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), and social work through an agreement with the University of Illinois at Chicago, UIC Department of Psychiatry (UIC) Center on Mental Health Services Research & Policy (CMHSRP), an approved provider of continuing education in social work. After registering your site, the site coordinator will be sent materials and instructions. 
 
To receive CEUs, the applicant must 1) sign in to verify attendance, 2) complete a registration form, 3) complete the post-training exam, 4) submit payment of $15.

The presenter controls the handout display on your computer screen so that your visual aids will always be synched with the speaker’s delivery. The speaker will be able to provide you with several additional enhancements on your screen and will be trained in how to maximize these additional features. The speaker will also have the capacity to link you to a relevant web site. In addition, your screen will have space for you to pose questions and comments as any time. This will allow you to not only dialogue with the speaker but also with others who are on the web conference with you.

Cancellation/refund policy- Refund requests made one week prior to the event will receive a full refund.  Refund requests received 1-7 days prior to the live event will incur a $50 processing fee.  Generally, no refunds will be issued for request made after 4:00 PM Eastern time the day prior to the event.
